What a world we find ourselves in here in Spring of 2022!
The past two years have been challenging, to say the very least. COVID kept volunteers away just as we had planted our largest crop ever in 2020. We lost much of that harvest to weeds and drought, and so scaled back immensely for 2021. Praying and pondering the 2022 planting, we are planning a modest crop in the lower field, and are already receiving requests for visits and volunteering. Praise God, this summer will be an active one on the farm!
The one steadfast group to help out throughout the pandemic has been the students from Misericordia University - a joyful bunch willing to do whatever was needed. Their presence was a reminder of why we have the farm and kept us going at a time when COVID could have killed the dream. Gotta love college kids!
Our sheep Petra, Suzie, Bev, and Francie are doing wonderfully well. All gave us lambs last spring, and we expect little ones from Petra and Suzie in a few weeks. We welcomed Missy and Henrietta back to the farm and they are thriving.
Carmina continues to process the fleece and, after many years of being asked, will soon be putting her hand-spun yarn up for sale on Etsy.
During our COVID slowdown, Larry started his own blog called Gaudium et Spes 22, dedicated to ressourcement theology and Vatican II. It is flourishing! He is in his element waxing philosophical on current issues in the Church. He also does a lot of interviews with interesting people, like this one with Bishop Robert Barron for Word on Fire.
Carmina started her Fiber Arts Club at Maria Kaupas Academy and ended up becoming its Administrator. She now runs this homeschool-hybrid classical education program and is having the time of her life! Echoes of Peter Maurin saying “create a new society within the shell of the old” inspire her as she oversees this unique form of education.
Please pray for us as we gear up for the new season. Send us your prayer intentions - we pray for them each morning.
