Happy Easter to all our farm friends! Our Lord is risen - the reason for our hope.
As we enter our second decade, we continue to welcome volunteers and visitors to the farm. The Misericordia students have been so faithful, raking out the run-ins and cleaning out the chicken coop. Our next project - a new fence in the pasture.
A recently retired couple from Massachusetts came for a tour. They have been pondering how they might build an intentional Christian community in their area and had been touring various models around the country. We were their last stop of a two week trip, so we sent them home with some fresh eggs. We had a wonderful conversation about the various ways Christians around the country are coming together to encourage each other to live the Gospel in a radical way. The Holy Spirit is moving!
Larry’s book Confession of a Catholic Worker has been recently published by Ignatius Press and it is getting wonderful reviews. He has been busy with various speaking engagements, including a homecoming to the Diocese of Lincoln, where an old seminary buddy of his, James Conley, is the bishop. He also spoke to the staff of Word on Fire, as well as seminarians and faculty at St. Meinrad’s Seminary. He is off to Benedictine College next week, and a brief trip to Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg soon after. He is always grateful for the warm reception (and sometimes bourbon) he receives. Travel will slow down now that summer is approaching and farm chores call.
Carmina was blessed to spend Easter at her alma mater, Notre Dame. Her nephew is a student there, so she tagged along on a family trip. The liturgies were magnificent, with the choir simply outstanding. While in South Bend, she had the opportunity to visit the Catholic Worker house, which is more like a village. It was very inspiring to see all that goes on there. You can read about their projects on their website.
Send us you prayer intentions - let’s continue to pray for each other.
